Taiwan's first ICU established in 1967

1913 Mackay School of Nursing opened.

1924 Free treatment for lepers begun.

1956 Social Welfare Department established.

1964 Women's volunteer services established. In 1982, men began to help out and the name was changed to Mackay Auxilliary Services.

1965 Baby Health Clinic established.

1966 The Polio Rehablitation Center opened.

1967 A 12 bed I.C.U. opened.

1968 A foundation was established after NT$1,000,000 was donated to help children suffering from polio, cleft palates, and burns.

1969 The first suicide prevention center in South East Asia was established. Later, Life and Peace Lines were initiated.

1971 A system where patients could register with doctors of their own choice was implemented for the first time.

1974 Outpatient Psychiatric services established.

1980 Prayer rooms opened for patients and staff.

1982 Medical teams sent to Orchid Island on a rotation schedule.

1994 The first Demonstration Burns Unit was established and supported by a joint medical team from the departments of Plastic surgery, rehablitation, nursing, and social work to provide multifaceted medical treatment for patients and help with their early return to society.
