Mackay Memorial Hospital was estab-lished in the name of Jesus. The central focus and motto of the hospital is the healing of the whole person --- addressing not just his physical or emotional needs, but also his spiritual needs. The Pastoral Care Department's primary function is to care for the spiritual needs of not only the patients and their families, but also the staff. Patient Care Personnel from this department are assigned to visit patients and share God's love and grace with them. They also refer patients who are interested in Christianity to churches when leaving the hospital. Staff Care Staff from the Pastoral Care Department help to meet the spiritual needs of the staff by giving programs such as morning devotions and Bible studies. They also take part in recruiting interviews to introduce the spiritual aims of the hospital. Counseling Center In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Pastoral Care Department oversees counselors and their volunteers who try to meet specific needs of people in the community as well as patients or their families. These programs are directed towards suicides, family problems, and general problems. The "Peace Line" was established to counsel people over the telephone.
