In addition, there are periodic emergency and disaster drills designed to insure that the staff are prepared for any situation. The Taipei branch has the highest volume of emergency visits of any hospital in Taiwan and serves as one of three main centers in the Taipei Area Emergency Services Network.. As such, it would also function as a triage center in the case of diasters. The Tamsui branch serves a similar function in its geographic area. The Taitung branch is the only such designated trauma unit in Taitung. Operating Rooms (Taipei Main Hospital: 19; Tamshui: 12; Taitung: 3) There are altogether 31 operating rooms in the main and branch hospitals. These include rooms equipped for open heart surgery, micro-neurosurgery, cornea and kidney transplants, and orthopedic surgery, as well as many other kinds of surgical procedures.

Facilities like the amniotic fluid laboratory, reproductive and endocrine laboratory, and sleep study center provide clinical services to patients in addition to their basic research activities.
Pharmacy The Pharmacy Department provides computerized dispensing services for both outpatients and inpatients. A special unit prepares chemotherapeutic agents for the Oncology Service as well as total parenteral nutrition solutions. The department is also responsible for therapeutic drug monitoring and screening for western medication in Chinese herbs. Clinical pharmacists offer patient education and information.
