Mackay Memorial Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Taiwan, just celebrating its 130-year birthday in 2010. A medical center with a main hospital in Taipei and three branches in Tamsui, Hsinchu, and Taitung, it has 1200 beds. Annually 45,000 surgical pathology specimens are reviewed, of which 4,000 are skin biopsies. The Department of Dermatology, officially established in 1962, was initially dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of leprosy. As it has developed over the years, our department has is now known for its academic achievements, subspecialties, and solid training programs.

Subspecialties in our department include dermatopathology, contact dermatitis and patch testing, medical mycology, hair and nail disorders, pediatric dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology. We are equipped with a 6-headed teaching microscope, photopatch and phototherapy, mycology lab, operating rooms for skin surgery, a digital microscope for skin and hair analysis, VISIA for skin analysis, and treatment-based and cosmetic lasers, including He-Ne, dye, Er-YAG, ruby, and Nd-YAG lasers, ultrapulse CO2 laser with fractional mode, diode laser with radiofrequency, and intensive pulse light.
